I recently purchased my white 40qt. (April, 2026). The online order process was easy and smooth.
I struggled a bit trying to decide between the Maluna 40 and the Maluna 50. I liked the idea of the 40 being rated at 24 pounds empty weight, versus the 31 pounds for the 50qt.... a full 7 pounds lighter. The external dimensions given put the 40 at 3.5 inches narrower than the 50,which along with its 7 pounds less weight... I thought might be beneficial for handling, taking it in and out of the back seat of any vehicle. And I am pleased with the 40 in this aspect.
The internal dimensions given for the 40 show it at:
Internal: 17.75"W x 11"D x 11.25"H
These dimensions, as noted on the website, are at the widest points, being the internal top of the cooler. I will mention that the bottom internal dimensions are a bit smaller. Just measuring with a simple tape measure, I found it to be about 16.5" wide and about 10.125 deep (front to back) at the bottom. Knowing these smaller dimensions at the bottom can be helpful, as in my case, I was wanting to use the frozen ice pack(s) to line the bottom of the cooler before putting my beverages in. While I'm still experimenting, I've been using a 5 pound ice pack laying on the bottom along with a 5 pound ice pack standing up on each end.... a total of 3, to line the inside of the cooler. I then put my full case of 16oz beverages in, filling any voids with cubed ice and then top it off with one more 5 pound ice pack laying on top of the cans, and again, lay ice cubes at each end of the ice pack and around it to fill any voids. Doing this, my cooler is now FULL ! :) Doing all of this is probably not all that necessary, but as I previously mentioned, I am still experimenting/learning. My drinks all stay very cold (the way I like them!) until I'm ready to replenish them 3 or 4 days later. And the "very cold" I mentioned, is with the cooler being in the back seat (battling the interior heat!) of my vehicle until it's time to replenish it with another case of drinks... always pre-chilled in the refrigerator, of course... and with a fresh change of the frozen ice packs which are completely thawed by then, but still somewhat cold.
Long story short, I am thus far very happy with the performance of my Maluna 40 as far as how it defies the interior heat of my vehicle and keeps my drinks cold, its overall size and weight for my usage, even when fully loaded... i can still handle it well.
The fit and finish are probably 95/100, which I will rate as "excellent." I chose white for the color, to try to not give the outside heat any advantages. :) And while white can be difficult to keep clean (I work in a very "less than clean" environment), my white Maluna 40 cooler gets treated to a weekly internal and external cleaning, finished off with a hand-rubbed application of Lucas Slick Mist, and thus far the cooler still looks showroom new! My Maluna treats me well, and I try to return the favor. :)
While I am fully satisfied with the performance of my new 40qt... If I were to have to do my purchase over again, I might opt for the 50qt, as it has about 1/3 more internal capacity per the specs given on the website (38.9 qts. for the 40 vs. 50.4 qts. for the Maluna 50). This extra bit of room can come in handy, depending on what you're wanting to do with your cooler. Just something to think about before you purchase.
In closing, I'd like to give a BIG "THANKS" to everyone at Maluna for all the efforts put forth in producing a TOP notch quality product, and especially for... producing your coolers HERE.. in our wonderfully blessed United States of America!!
